Spin Yarn with Wheel or Drop Spindle!

Hello! I am Jessie, a fiber artist who has been working with yarn and fiber for over a decade. I have been spinning for 5 years and want to bring this amazing craft to more people.
Spinning fiber into yarn is a very interesting and fun skill to have. The fiber itself is a single thread that alone is fragile, but when combined and entangled with others like itself it becomes a strong and durable material that can be used for knitting, crochet, weaving, macrame, or anything else you can think of to do with yarn.

The craft takes time and patience to learn, but the feeling of satisfaction upon seeing the fibers twist into an even thread is something that not many others crafts can duplicate. And just imagine getting to make a scarf, a hat, or even a sweater with yarn that you spun!

This is a 4 hour class taught in two 2 hour segments. The second segment will take place a couple weeks after the first class. This time between classes is for you to spin the yarn that you will need for the second session when you learn how to ply it into yarn.

The location can be anywhere you choose, even in the comfort of your own home! If learning to spin in the park sounds awesome to you though, we will be sitting at the benches by the tennis courts. If you need a location with different access options, please let me know and I would be happy to come teach you wherever you like.

For the first lesson, you will learn the basics of how to spin yarn on the device of your choosing. There are multiple ways to handle the roving and manage the fiber and we will cover the two most common beginning methods.

The second lesson will cover three different ways to ply your single strand into yarn, as well as how to care for your skein after it has been spun.

The class covers the basics of fiber handling, using the spinning tool of your choosing, getting started with spinning, managing any problems that arise, and how to ply the strands you spin into a strong beautiful yarn.

Learn how to spin with a Drop Spindle or Spinning Wheel! You can choose!

Two different fibers will be provided for you to learn with, as well as some thread for one of the plying methods covered.
Fibers provided are Merino wool and a Merino/Bamboo/Silk blend.

You are also welcome to bring your own fiber for spinning if there is something you really want to learn with.

YES I CAN TEACH YOU! However, this is a different method of spinning and can be a little tricky... But I believe in you!

I look forward to teaching you how to spin!!!
