Learning to repair your own clothing using is a great way to get more longevity out of your favorite pieces, to stretch your budget, to avoid contributing needlessly to the waste stream. Do it using visible mending techniques and abstract embroidery, and it becomes a way to fill your wardrobe with one-of-a-kind works of wearable art while engaging in contemplative, thoughtful creative practice.
In this two-hour tutorial, we’ll cover basic handstitching, techniques for abstract embroidery, reinforcement techniques, how to durably patch a garment, and how to use ornamental stitching to turn your functional mend into a beautiful and interesting visual accent.
This lesson can be tailored to suit your experience level, whether you're a beginner looking to thread a needle for the first time, or a seasoned sewist looking for a new skill. We’ll go at a pace that is comfortable for you.
This one-on-one tutorial takes about two hours - let me know your scheduling preference when registering (morning/evening, weekend/weekday), and I'll get back to you shortly to schedule something that meets your needs. Since there are only two of us, we can meet in a nice coffeeshop somewhere convenient to your location.
This can also be taught as a small group class - if you have multiple people interested at the same time, get in touch and I can set up a custom listing for you!
